The Advantaged is here to help with our list of some of the best fishing spots in South Florida.
Government Cut
A man-made shipping channel between Miami Beach and Fisher Island, Government Cut is tarpon central. In fact, there are three main areas where the tarpon can be found: the area in front of Fisher Island, the north side of the north jetty, and the deep water of the main channel from where the channel heads out to sea and where the ferry boat launches on Fisher Island. However, tarpon is not the only fish to catch here; there is also mutton snapper, barracuda, cobia, grouper, mangrove snapper, permit, Spanish mackerel, and snapper.
Seven Mile Bridge
Located in the Florida Keys, this bridge connects the Middle Keys to the Lower Keys and is – you guessed it – seven miles long. The best fishing spot in this area is west of Sombrero Light in 105 feet of water. Have trouble finding it? In fact, most tackle shops in the Marathon area will give you exact coordinates of where to go. After seeing how many amberjacks, grouper, mutton snapper, jack crevalle, sailfish, king mackerel, and yellowtail lurk around here, you can add this fishing spot to the list of reasons to charter a yacht in South Florida.
Key Biscayne
Key Biscayne lies between two large parks. It’s a town on the barrier island across the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami. Head to the southern end of Key Biscayne to get to where the best fishing spot is. Here, the water is finally fishable as it gets to 80-200 feet in depth. Moreover, there are many artificial reefs located in this area that hold good bottom fishing for grouper, mutton snapper, African pompano, amberjack, and spinner sharks. Use fishing surface lines to land some bonito, dolphin, kingfish, sailfish, and wahoo.
Haulover Inlet
The strip of coast that is about 150 to 300 yards off the Haulover Inlet beaches to Government Cut is one of Miami’s best-kept fishing secrets. Every winter, this strip of coast by the Miami Beach islands has tons of tarpon. For fish that hang out in this fishing spot year-round, expect to find plenty of bluefish, blue runners, jacks, snapper, and Spanish mackerel.
Dumbfounding Bay
This local hidden gem is located just 0.6 miles away from Sunny Isles Beach. This bay is inland, surrounded by charming residential neighborhoods and bordered by the Lehman Causeway. In fact, fishermen have reported catching tons of tarpon, jack crevalle, snook, and big black drum at this Miami fishing spot.
